Pre-Implementation Planning Process

In the Pre-Implementation Planning stage, VELOCITIE focuses on defining the business processes and related GIS and IT applications. We begin by identifying business processes with a geographic component - major activities that involve the collection, use, or distribution of geographic information.

Through a series of workshops and interviews with key stakeholders, we gather information on strategic business goals and operational requirements. We learn how technology and resources are used in the current processes and where GIS technology can be applied to add value. For the new business process definition, we characterize the needs, functional requirements, integration requirements, and information resources of the new system. We also assess the risks, limitations, and obstacles posed by staying with the current system compared with moving to a new system. The workshops result in an overall strategic plan to implement an efficient and operational system in a cost-effective manner.

Building today’s systems for tomorrow...

Using the information from the workshops, we proceed as a team to define the GIS applications – specific uses of a GIS system that address the requirements of one or more business processes. We develop system specifications and design the data model needed to support the applications. We help prioritize the applications and use the prioritization to outline the implementation and deployment iterations.
